About Us

We are coffee roastery in Amsterdam, dedicated to provide amazing speciality coffee for everyone and for the best price.

At Aribica Coffee, we offer the world’s finest coffee and equipment. We roast all coffees to perfection and serve and ship them freshly. We always aim to deliver the best flavor experience for our customers. We stand for respect and true fairness in the value chain. We source and roast coffee from single farms, estates and cooperatives. We travel extensively throughout the year, visiting the producers and cooperatives with whom we currently work and looking for interesting varietals of coffee and new farms from which to buy. During these visits we talk to farmers and cooperative members, learning more about the coffee they grow and process and the challenges that they face. We then look to establish a relationship with the grower and exporter of that coffee. We believe that where such a relationship exists, quality, quantity and price requirements can be discussed in an open and equal way. We see this as sustainable, fair and equal trade. In all we do, we uphold the highest moral standards to sustain the planet and humanity.
Coffee Farming & Sourcing

Coffee Farming & Sourcing

We work with coffee-growing communities in Latin America to create a future of quality coffee. We knew that to ensure a continued supply of high-quality, sustainably grown coffee, we needed to work directly with farmers.

We make the big world of specialty coffee easy for you

We offer the best coffees in the world and celebrate their diversity. But we want all of this to be as easy as possible for you. We take you by the hand and accompany you into the world of high-quality coffee.

Our Mission

We ethically source the tastiest coffee beans from across the globe to make our blends, and work hard to ensure that sustainability remains at the heart of everything we do. We bring you fair trade and organic coffee wherever possible, never cutting corners or compromising on the quality of our beans.

Many Aribicacoffees are organic and biologically certified, which means that there are no chemical fertilizers or chemical/synthetic pesticides are used. Unfortunately, fully certified organic farming is not always possible. The certification costs a lot of money for some coffee farmers while they produce wonderful coffee. We believe it is important that our coffee farmers also treat nature with respect, beyond the coffee plants. Take the Hartmann family, for example: The Birdsong coffee they produce owes its name to the many birds that nest on the plantation, including in the coffee bushes. More than 280 species have been spotted by birdwatchers! Many coffee farmers have forests with many varieties of trees in addition to the plantation.

WHERE DOES OUR COFFEE COME FROM?

You might have heard of the two most common types of coffee. Robusta and Arabica. All of the coffee we buy is Arabica coffee. It has a slightly lower caffeine content than Robusta and is therefore known for a lighter, smoother flavour with less bitterness.

Arabica coffee is grown in the coffee belt, between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn. Most of the coffee we buy is from South and Central America, East Africa and Asia. Caffeine is a natural pesticide in the coffee plant. Arabica grows best in high altitudes where there are fewer pests (this is why it has less caffeine than Robusta). Many of the farms we work with are in remote, hard-to-reach places high in the mountains or volcanoes. Some of the coffees we buy are grown by smallholders working in a cooperative. Others are from larger farms which support entire communities.

Sustainability

Aribica coffee stands for respect for nature, the coffee farmer and the product. We strive to make the (coffee) world a better place.

A fair price for the farmer and quality in your cup We import as much as possible one-to-one Direct Trade. In this way, the farmer receives 30% to 50% more than the usual Fair Trade coffee prices. We like personal contact and believe in long-term relationships, not only with our coffee drinkers but also with our suppliers. We therefore select our own plantations and in this way have direct contact with the coffee farmers. Quality improvement and mentioning the name of the coffee farmer means a better price for the farmer. Their name is therefore prominently displayed on the labels of our coffee. In exchanging knowledge with them but also by paying a fair, good price, we contribute to improving living conditions on the plantation and in the region. In this way, you can enjoy the best freshly roasted arabica coffee harvests and they can enjoy increasingly better education and housing.

We participate in the Futureproof Coffee Collective project in collaboration with MVO and MVO Nederland. We support coffee farmers in the Kachalu cooperative in Colombia, who are piloting with the "Real Pricing Tool". This model allows you to understand the cost of coffee (if social and environmental costs are included).
